Being a renowned foodie area, it is extremely important to have an idea of what the best restaurants in Courmayeur are both on and off piste before you get there. Reservations are a must.

If Courmayeur is known for anything other than skiing, it’s food. It is renowned for having some of the best chefs and cuisines in the Valle D’Aosta region. You can almost call it a foodie resort. Some ski just to ski, others ski so they can get from one restaurant to the other in search of their next local meal or drink. I’ve already given you my shpeal for the top happy hours and cafes in Courmayeur, now it’s time for the bigger meals…lunch and dinner! There are numerous restaurants in Courmayeur, both on and off piste that are a must to take advantage of. So when it comes time to decide where to eat, I’ll help you cut through the clutter and choose only the best restaurants in Courmayeur.

Reservations

First things first, don’t forget to make a reservation at least 3 days in advance, even better if it’s a week in advance. Courmayeur is a highly coveted foodie area. If you don’t make reservations 3 days in advance and decide to call the morning of, you risk eating dinner at 10:30PM (that’s if they have any availability left). I kid you not. Pat and I made that mistake the first day and made sure to book reservations for the remainder of our stay ASAP.

If you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the bumping town of Courmayeur, I would recommend you stay just on the outskirts of it in a traditional guesthouse. Many of them are made of tuff or wood, which adds to the charm of staying in a historic European ski town. Maison La Saxe is a perfect example of a property built into the tuff. If you’re looking for a more traditional wooden Chalet, then this may be more your feel. Either way, you are bound to find a unique choice in Courmayeur!

1. Pizzeria Du Tunnel

Why we chose it: Huge Instagram worthy pizzas in a crammed chalet-like establishment

Pizzeria Du Tunnel offers over 30 different types of pizzas! It’s located in an old stone and wood chalet and is the oldest pizzeria in Courmayeur. The pizzas are enormous, so come with an appetite. Although big, the pizza has a nice fluffy crust and are thin in the center, so you’d be surprised by how big of a dent you can put in the pizza. If you have a tendency to feel claustrophobic, you may want to think twice before eating at Pizzeria Du Tunnel. Tall people can get away with eating on the first floor, but the second floor has a really low ceiling!

2. Ristorante Chiecco

Why we chose it: The most famouS, highly rated And Best restaurant in Courmayeur (plus it’s on the slopes and open till 9PM every night)

If you were to ask anyone from Milano where to eat in Courmayeur, Chiecco would be at the top of their list. Chiecco is a stone and wood chalet located just steps from Plan Chécrouit. The chalet is owned by Anna and Paolo Costa who make a simple, yet refined Alpine cuisine with multiple courses. They have plenty of luxurious outdoor seating areas, perfect for taking in the view of Courmayeur below, and a fun and cozy red and orange interior with alpine and eclectic decorations.

Yes, Chiecco’s chalet is stunning, but what sets them apart is their cuisine. That’s why they’re considered one of the best restaurants in Courmayeur. Chiecco only works with the best producers in Italy and abroad to create seasonal dishes unlike any other. During our 2 hour lunch there we had the privilege of indulging in their famous bruschetta calda con coppa croccante, aka warm bruschetta with crunchy coppa charcuterie, as a starter. It was then followed by ravioli stuffed with ricotta di bufala and herbs, costolette di agnello alla senape, and to conclude a delicious tiramisu. You’ll leave hoping the meal had lasted longer…trust me. The place can feel a bit chaotic because of all the people, but it’s part of the ambiance.

If you’re lucky, try and snag yourself a reservation for dinner. That’s when the true life of the party begins. Drinking, dancing, refined dining, all while on the slopes.

3. Fuori Pista

Why we chose it: Organic pizza and local Valdostano dishes in a low-key restaurant

Fuori Pista literally translates to off-piste, or off the slopes. In fact, it is a little “off-piste” from the rest of Courmayeur and is located closer to the base of the mountain away from the main town. Fuori Pista is the pizzeria that is part of the larger Lo Sciatore (The Skier) establishment. It is known for its pizzas made from organic flour, but its local dishes are impeccable as well. I ordered a traditional Valle D’Aosta dish, Carbonada Valdostana con polenta, polenta with white wine and a more intricate style of beef stew. Patrick ordered Pappardelle fresche integrali al ragu di cinghiale, or home-made, whole wheat pappardelle with wild boar sauce. He had never had boar before so was eager to taste this local delicacy! Both were of course, extremely satisfying. For dessert we ordered panna cotta with raspberry sauce, the berry on top of our meal.

4. Ristorante Pizzeria La Terrazza

Why we chose it: Located in the center of town, this restaurant has the best service making you feel like a part of their family, it’s no wonder Ristorante Pizzeria La Terrazza is always packed

Ask a local where to eat in Courmayeur and they’ll send you right off to Ristorante Pizzeria la Terrazza. The place is homey and the service even homier. Ristorante Pizzeria la Terrazza likes to think of it’s team as a family, and from the moment you step into their restaurant, you feel like a part of their extended family. Not only is the food, which includes a mix of regional and mediterranean dishes, excellent, but the service is what makes people want to come back for more. Friendly beyond belief. They even offer everyone complimentary limoncello at the end of a meal as a digestivo, and won’t let you leave without it. I enjoyed tagliatelle ai funghi porcini e pomodori pachino, or tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and tomatoes, and Patrick ordered filetto di fassone Piemontese alla crema di tartufo e porcini, or Fassone Piedmontese fillet with truffles and porcini mushroom sauce.
