The best restaurant in Korcula might just be in a hotel. Looking to eat on Korcula? Visit Mimi’s Bistro at Tara’s Lodge.

When staying at hotels, “I don’t just stay here, I eat here.” Sure I chose Tara’s Lodge on the island of Korcula, Croatia, for its untainted and jaw-dropping views of Zrnovska Banja bay and unparalleled interior design, but I need to stay fueled up for my adventures, so I like to know that my next good meal may be closer than I think. Now I know hotel restaurants have a certain reputation, but as of recently, I’ve come to uncover that hotel restaurants are getting their hands on some of the best epicurean innovators around–and Tara’s Lodge is no exception (for more on my stay at Tara’s Lodge, see here). Mimi’s Bistro takes dining way beyond fresh bread and coffee, it’s one of the must stop places to eat on Korcula.

Mimi’s Bistro has a menu focused on locally-sourced ingredients and market-fresh goodness that changes on a regular basis. It’s the perfect place to eat on Korcula if you’re looking for a secluded and romantic night out or a chill, waterfront beach bar lunch. The restaurant’s commitment to keep things contemporary, but local, is translated in the decor. Chic furniture, exposed wooden beams, fun local photographs, and a hip bar scene combine to create a trendy ambiance.

Post swim, Pat and I chose to sit on the lower level of Mimi’s Bistro, just feet away from the beach for lunch. We ordered a Karlovacko, a local beer, and a glass of Summer Pink, a sparkling Sardina rosé with mint on ice, to help us kick back and get us into the laid back mindset of Korcula. We perused through the menu and began debating over what to order. With so many in-season options, it was hard to choose from the extensive menu: watermelon and feta, grilled peach and burrata salad, plenty of seafood options, some pasta options, their famous Mimi’s burger with the “special sauce” and more.

We finally were able to choose from the endless and tempting list. Pat ordered the famous Mimi’s burger, while I ordered a local pesto and mozzarella melt with a side of roasted greens. I fully enjoyed my mozzarella and pesto melt. Very simple, very light and perfectly gooey, but crunchy. The greens were perfectly seasoned with just a hint of olive oil, garlic, and salt. Just like I like them, simplicity at its best and not overdone!

Pat did not regret ordering the most famous meal at Mimi’s Bistro, Mimi’s burger. The burger definitely tasted fresh, in fact, all meat at Mimi’s comes from the area of Korcula and is butchered by the local butcher. Aside from being cooked to perfection, what set it apart was its secret sauce (the chefs won’t share what it is!). Pat would best describe it as a hint of sweet honey mustard dressing…or something similar, who knows. After such an amazing main meal, we couldn’t not order dessert (plus everything sat so well with our stomachs that we had room for more). For dessert, we ordered a lemon raspberry tart. The tangy punch of the lemon is mellowed out by the subtle sweetness of raspberry. It’s exactly what our taste buds had in order. It was the perfect and fresh palate cleanser to an amazing meal.

If you’re looking for a laid back, non-touristy, and secluded waterfront dining enclave, then Mimi’s Bistro is the place to eat on Korcula. But it isn’t just the place to be for lunch. Dinner is even more eventful with beach bbqs, pasta workshops, wine tasting sessions, and more happening throughout the summer. Call in advance to stay up-to-date on the unique happening of the week.
