Traveling in Ireland, especially in the winter, can be cold and exhausting, while simultaneously beautiful. Of all the hotels in Galway, The Galmont Hotel & Spa is the one that helps you restart your mind and body and make sure the rest of your vacation is effortless.

After spending a cold and windy afternoon at the Cliffs of Moher, Patrick and I made our way to Galway through the cute winding streets in Western Ireland. We were spending the night at the luxurious Galmont Hotel & Spa overlooking Lough Atalia, a four star hotel in the center of Galway. We pulled into the complimentary parking garage available for guests. It was packed that evening, we were lucky to find a spot! We later found out it was because of all the hotels in Galway, this one was hosting a wedding. We checked-in and were offered an Executive Room on the top floor, level 5, only accessible via key card.

The suite was massive with windows on either side of the TV offering splendid views across Lough Atalia, a shallow lake in Galway city. Unfortunately, it was after 5PM in December and it was dark outside so we weren’t able to enjoy the view. The bedroom was fixed with all the necessities two enormous wardrobes, a personal in-room heater, a king size bed, a couch, a desk, complimentary and private in-room wi-fi, a sitting area with a couch, complimentary water and a TV. The bed was beyond comfortable. It was decked with Egyptian cotton linens with oversized 70% goose down and hypo-allergenic duvets and pillows. It was by far one of the most comfortable beds we slept in during our time in Ireland.

…It was so comfortable, Patrick didn’t waste one second jumping into the bed. We were so high up, we couldn’t hear any of the music from the Christmas festivities and wedding happening below. It was like it’s own private sound proof floor. There were many thoughtful extras included in the room, including a complimentary Nespresso machine and tea station, bathrobes and slippers, use of the energize fitness & leisure space, and a deep sleep pillow spray by ThisWorks. I had never seen a deep sleep pillow spray before! What a unique addition.

What is deep sleep pillow spray?
The same question I had when I saw it on our bed! It’s a spray that is naturally infused with essential oils such as lavender and chamomile to calm the nerves and help you fall asleep faster and wake up refreshed. You spray it on your pillow and voilà! It’s retailed at $30 so don’t skip out on giving it a try!

It was raining and we were cold from our excursion to the Cliffs of Moher, we were in desperate need of a warm bath. The Galmont Hotel & Spa is unique in it’s offering. Unlike other hotels in Galway, The Galmont Hotel & Spa also offers complimentary access to their sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, outdoor hot tub, gym, and more. We should’ve taken advantage of the steam room and outdoor hot tub, but it was raining and we were eager to start seeing Galway. Luckily, our bathroom was equipped with a huge separate walk-in shower and a large bathtub. The humid, cold air in Ireland goes straight to your bones! So I find that having a bathtub in your hotel is close to a necessity when traveling in Ireland in December.

After a warm bath and a cup of Nespresso we were feeling ready to explore Galway. After dinner and some exploration, we returned to The Galmont Hotel & Spa and fell into a deep sleep. The next morning we woke up to a foggy view across Lough Atalia, another rainy day in Ireland! But with another rainy day, came another rainbow starting from one end of Galway and ending across the other. We headed down for breakfast and enjoyed pastries, eggs, and coffee in the breakfast area. We were ready to start our day, well-rested from a quiet, restful, and comfortable nights sleep. If there is one thing The Galmont Hotel & Spa is good at, it’s making sure that you are rested and well-equipped to face the beauty (and crazy weather!) that is Ireland.
