If you’ve already read my guide on how to visit St. Barth like a local, you know that this island’s magic lies beneath the surface of its luxury boutiques. But to truly find the "soul" of the island, you have to talk to the people who live here year-round. I recently spoke with Tuti, the owner of Nyama St. Barths, to get her personal St. Barths insider tips. As a mother and the owner of the island’s most beloved Vietnamese restaurant, Tuti’s version of the island is "barefoot vibes," family resets, and soul-fixing comfort food.

Here is exactly how she spends her perfect day off, plus the St. Barths insider tips she swears by.

Note

I asked Tuti to share her authentic life, not the tourist version. To respect the privacy of the locals and protect these quiet spots from overcrowding, I have shared the vibes and general areas below, but I’ve kept the exact GPS coordinates, the names of the specific delis, and the personal contact info for her favorite guide exclusive to my St. Barth Google Map Guide.

The "Barefoot" Saturday Itinerary

When Tuti gets a day off with her family, she follows a specific rhythm that prioritizes "slow living."

  • 7:30 – 9:00 AM: The Slow Morning. It’s all about coffee, something sweet, and "barefoot vibes" at home before the island wakes up.
  • 9:30 AM: Beach Time in Lorient. Tuti heads to Lorient because it’s calm for the kids. She has a very specific "parking hack" that puts her right between the island's best bakery and a hidden Surf Cabane that most people miss.
  • 12:00 PM: The Local Lunch. Forget the two-hour table service. It’s either a sandwich on the sand or a stop at the iconic Jojo Burger.
  • 2:00 – 4:00 PM: The "Home Reset." Tuti’s secret to a good family day? The afternoon nap. While tourists are out in the peak heat, she disappears for a quiet home reset.
  • Late Afternoon: Sunset at The Phare. After a walk, she heads to The Phare (The Lighthouse) for the best sunset on the island, watching the boats flicker in the harbor below.
  • Dinner: Eddy’s Ghetto. She keeps it simple at this legendary garden restaurant, one of the few spots in Gustavia that still feels like the "old" St. Barth...aside from her restaurant, Nyama, of course!

Clearing the Head: Tuti's Go-To Morning Walk

Everyone knows the path to Colombier, but when Tuti needs to "sweat it out" and clear her head, she heads in a different direction.

"My move is an early morning walk when it’s still quiet before the island wakes up," she says. She does a specific back-and-forth route to Flamands with a friend. When she needs an "instant reset," she takes a particular uphill road walk that offers a sea breeze and a view that most visitors never see.

The "Soul-Fix" Comfort Food (And Where to Get It)

When she isn't running the kitchen at Nyama, Tuti craves something simple. Her #1 island comfort food isn't a $100 steak, it’s a proper French rotisserie chicken with patates. (I have to agree, this is my go-to on St. Barth too. It's cheap, super fresh, and arguable the best meal you can eat in a swimsuit.)

She gets this from a specific local grocery store and a neighboring epicurean deli that she claims has the "best cheese and ham on the island." It’s the ultimate 5-minute meal that fixes your soul after a day in the sun. I’ve pinned the exact location of this deli and the grocery store in my Google Map Guide so you don't end up with dry supermarket chicken.

Beyond the Designer Bag: Authentic St. Barth Souvenirs

Tuti suggests skipping the designer logos for something that feels "real." Her house is filled with:

  • The "Rum Matriarch" of Corossol: Hidden in the village of Corossol lives the island's oldest rum maker. She has over 100 flavors of homemade rhum arrangé (infused rum), from hibiscus to chocolate cookie. It’s the kind of souvenir you actually open and share with friends. The Catch: Google Maps sends you to the wrong location. You have to know where to go and which door to knock on. (Yes, I have pinned her exact door in the guide).
  • Vero’s Tiles: A shop called Les Petits Carreaux in Gustavia. She's the artist who creates the tiles to each of the beach entrances! You can bring a smaller version home with you as a subtle nod to your favorite bay.

The "Turtle Lagoon" Escape

To "disappear" completely, Tuti heads to the turquoise shallows of Grand Cul de Sac. Unlike the wavier beaches, this bay is protected and calm. "The water is not deep and you can swim with turtles in total peace," she says. It's the perfect spot for a quiet, floating reset.

The #1 Mistake Visitors Make

The biggest mistake Tuti sees? Underestimating the intensity of the St. Barth sun. "People show up cute and unprotected," she warns. By day two, they are "cooked" with les coups de soleil (sunburns) that ruin the rest of the trip. Do as the locals do: stay protected and time your outings for the early morning or late afternoon.

The Heart of the Island: Corossol & The Secret Guide

Tuti believes most visitors miss the point of Corossol. This traditional fishing village is where the island’s soul lives. She highly recommends connecting with a native guide named Angélique to hear the real story of the island. Angélique is the best-kept secret on the island, but she doesn't have a website or Instagram. You can only book her private rum-tasting and history tours if you have her personal number. I’ve included her personal contact details in my Google Map Guide.

Unlock Every Secret Pin

I couldn’t share everything Tuti told me without giving away the quiet spots that locals cherish. However, I have mapped out all of Tuti’s St. Barths insider tips, plus my own curated list of 125+ hidden spots, into the Svadore St. Barth Google Map.

My St. Barth Google Map includes the "Gatekept" details from this interview:

  • The "Soul Fix" Pins: The names and exact locations of the specific grocery store and the epicurean deli for the island's best chicken, cheese, and ham.
  • The Rum Legend's Door: I’ve pinned the exact location of the house in Corossol where you can buy the island's best authentic rum.
  • Lorient Parking Hack: The specific side-by-side spot that makes the bakery-to-beach transition seamless.
  • Angélique’s Contact Info: The personal contact details for the native guide Tuti recommends for private history tours and rum tastings.
