West Coast Guide: A Weekend in Vegas

Where to sleep, eat and play in Las Vegas.

On my last trip to Los Angeles, my group of friends and I decided to head to Las Vegas for a quick “romantic” Valentine’s day weekend filled with drinking, entertainment, gambling and of course–incredible food. Here’s my guide to a weekend in Las Vegas.

The Palms

4321 W Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89103

Inspired by the world’s most famous bachelor, for the ultimate high-roller The Palms is the place to be. The Hugh Hefner Sky Villa is known as one of the most expensive hotel rooms in the world. The Suite itself was built to model the original playboy mansion starting with its own personal glass elevator. The two-story 9,000 square foot villa boasts a bed that rotates beneath a mirrored ceiling and a $700,000 glass wall Playboy Pool that extends out over the hotel with breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip. Additional amenities include a show tub that can hold up to eight people, steam room, personal gym and screening room, massage and spa room, poker table, fireplace, 11 pop-up plasma TVs, three bedrooms, and a wet bar. The suite cost roughly $10 million to build, but is available for rent at $40,000+ per night and can host up to 250 guests that can be served cocktails by the renters own batch of Playboy bunnies. Split this room with some of your closest friends, and you’ve got yourself one of the most expensive, luxurious and unforgettable of nights in Vegas.

For those of us who cannot afford to live the high-life like Hugh Hefner, The Palms also offers a low-cost option for th0se still seeking a true bachelor experience. Stays at the Fantasy Suites start just at $2K a night.

The Venetian

3355 S Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89109

For a taste of Venice’s good life, play at The Venetian like a real Duke or Duchess. In the middle of the desert you will find a faux St. Mark’s Square, a half-million gallon reproduction of Venice’s Grand Canal and a beautiful reconstruction of the Rialto bridge. The 120,000 square-foot casino finds itself in one of the worlds top five biggest hotels in the world. The casino features famous frescoes gracing 65-feet domed ceilings painted like the Sistine Chapel and bordered with extravagant moldings that will make you feel like your playing Blackjack in Venice’s old palazzos. Minimum bets start at $10 making it it perfect for anyone looking to play small or big. The golden hue gives it a European elegance making it truly bellissimo!

Delmonico Steakhouse

3355 S Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89109

When in Vegas, it seems fitting to have one truly expensive, classy meal to kick-off the evening. The Delmonico Steakhouse is the perfect place for Whisky and steak-lovers. One of the older restaurants on the Strip, Delmonico’s has been around for 16 years serving drop-dead delicious version of the food that made Chef Emeril Lagasse famous. With over 700 options of Whisky from over 9 different countries, Delmonico’s offers one of the largest selections of Whisky in the U.S. The New Orleans’ influence is evident from the minute you walk in from the jazz music, to the creole sauces and vast wine cellar that engulfs the walls covered with vaulted ceilings that look like an old-world cathedral. I suggest trying the filet mignon..!

It’s quite impossible to get bored in Vegas. Just step outside or inside your hotel and it’s like stepping into Disney land. From going to the top of the Eiffel tower, to watching the fountain show at the Bellagio, or strolling past the Mirage’s cascading waterfall – their is entertainment for all everywhere.

If one wants to get away from the Strip head down to Fremount Street for some more local bars, casinos and zip-lining 12 stories above the crowd. If you are looking for something that involves trekking and nature, a quick trip to the Red Rock Desert is a must.
