La Petite Colombe in St. Barth has been baking the world a better place for as long as I can remember.

You knead to visit La Petite Colombe bakery before you leave St. Barth. It’s one of the most talked about, if not THE most talked about bakery or boulangerie, in all of St. Barth. It supplies the bread for a good part of the hotels and island. The boulangerie has 3 locations: Gustavia, L’Orient, and Colombier. Our villa was conveniently located just 100 feet from the Colombier location. So of course, early in the morning, I left the villa and took a walk to La Petite Colombe bakery to pick up some freshly made pastries for Patrick and the fam.

Of the 3, L’Orient location is the best for outdoor seating. But if you’re just looking for grab-and-go, Colombier works just fine. It’s actually the primary location where all the bread is made so you can see the actual bakery from the outside.

La Petite Colombe specializes in freshly baked breads and pastries including French baguettes, croissants, and pain au chocolat. The bakery closes at 1PM every day so get there early if you can. Breakfast is my favorite time of day. My go-to was pain au chocolat and a baguette for the afternoon or evening. Those looking for a more affordable lunch option, La Petite Colombe sandwiches are some of the best. They sell out before noon though, so buy one in the morning. They have everything from ham and cheese to curried chicken salad.

La Petite Colombe is the place you’ll hear everyone talk about on the island, but no one actually knows much about the place. Who the owners are, it’s history, how long it’s been open (I believe 2006?)…and it’s even harder to find information online. It’s like the people of St. Barth want to keep it there little local secret. Even finding the locations can be a bit tedious, but it’s well worth the find.
