Moo Moo’s Creamery may have a 20-minute line, but it’s worth the wait for their homemade ice cream with sugar free options.
After a hike up Breackneck and a stroll through Cold Spring, we were headed to the highly rated Moo Moo’s Creamery on the boardwalk in the Lower Village. I did not expect to find a 20 minute line to get ice cream! But I was hungry and craving the best ice cream in town so I waited. It was well worth the wait. Moo Moo’s Creamery sells homemade ice cream and milkshakes. They produce over 100 flavors and they choose 16 to feature every day. It’s a family-run company that was in search of the perfect ice cream recipe with the most wholesome and high quality ingredients. All the ice cream is made fresh every day in the back of the shop, it’s never mass produced. Moo Moo’s Creamery is decked out with cow benches just steps from the beautiful Cold Spring waterfront.
We stepped in and took a look at the chalkboard that listed out the 16 flavors offered for the day. Something I found to be super cool was the fact that they offered sugar free flavors! My mom decided to try one of those and bought sugar free vanilla in a sugar cone. I was in the mood for something fruity so ordered a cup of strawberry ice cream. The portions were huge a “single scoop” was really like 2 huge scoops. They offered two scoops, three scoops, a pint, and a gallon of ice cream for those who dared. They could also make banana splits and milkshakes with their ice cream. You could order the ice cream in a cup, sugar cone, cake cone, or waffle cone and add toppings. We kept ours plain and simple.
The texture was icy yet creamy. We had tried a few flavors before choosing ours, including butter pecan and maple walnut. In my opinion many of the flavors were a bit too sweet for our tastes. The strawberry and sugar free vanilla flavors were perfect for us, not too sweet. The ice cream was also very easy to digest, which to me is the sign of a high quality made ice cream. Overall Moo Moo’s Creamery gets an A++ from me. If it wasn’t so far, I’d make it my go-to ice cream place.
