There’s just something about waking up in a room that’s not yours that’s a little bit exhilarating. Whether that’s because of the pampering spa or amazing dinner you had the night before or the simple pleasure of knowing you don’t have to make the bed. But it’s more than just the ultra-soft hotel pillows that give you that glowing sensation, it’s the activities as well. If you’ve never tried any of these activities, it’s time to start living and really discover Lake Maggiore. Through Grand Hotel Majestic, hotel and non-hotel guests can paddle along the Lago Maggiore coastline, soaking up the incredible mountain views and Pallanza’s historic ancient villas. When I took advantage of this Lake Maggiore activity this summer, the pandemic briefly seemed to simply fade away. With the blue sky, a lake underfoot, and the sound of my oar rippling through the water, it was the perfect way for me to decompress, in style, during my stay at Grand Hotel Majestic.
Grand Hotel Majestic’s easy access to the lake makes discovering Lake Maggiore a piece of cake. You can access the water whenever you want from the hotel’s private beach and dock. If you want to wake up early at Grand Hotel Majestic and head out for an early morning paddle to view the sunrise on the waters, you can. After sunbathing and taking a nap, I headed down the stone steps to the water. I untied my paddle board and was off.
Stand up paddleboard is not as easy as people make it look. I stood, got my balance, and began to paddle out from the cove towards Pallanza. On the other hand, my mother could not get herself to stand up. She said she had no balance and couldn’t even get herself on her feet. But, no problem! She still paddled the entire time, just seated. We headed towards Pallanza before looping around Isola San Giovanni.
One of Grand Hotel Majestic’s many perks is its rare position in front of Isola San Giovanni, a small privately owned island of the royal Borromeo family. The island has a small villa and church. This is where the royal wedding between Countess Beatrice Borromeo and Prince Pierre Casiraghi di Monaco took place in 2015. Grand Hotel Majestic’s unique position allows you to paddleboard around this island and take in the beautiful villa and church.
In an attempt to get away from the shoreline, I took the paddleboard even farther out to get a better view of Pallanza’s famous and scenic villas. Stand-up paddle boarding feels like your waking on water. I loved observing what was going on around me on this busy Saturday evening. Meanwhile, the sun was beginning to set, so I made my way back to Grand Hotel Majestic.
The calm waters of Lake Maggiore rippled around me. I slowly made my way down the shore, I dipped my paddle into the water and propelled myself along. The warm sun shone on my face as it began to hide behind the mountains. I took a deep breath and arrived back to my stay at Grand Hotel Majestic.

To sum up, you can spend a whole week at the hotel and never do the same thing more than once if you really wanted.
